Eitan Steinberg, settings, musical director
New Albion Records label, 1999, U.S.A.
"Steinberg...has composed exquisite settings of these Sephardic traditional ballads and wedding songs, which reveal the songs' original richness with a modern perspective.
The extraordinary vocalist Ben-Zaken sings in the Ladino language she learned from her grandmother."

(San Francisco Bay Area "Express")
This recording features 17 Judeo-Spanish love songs and wedding songs from the Sephardic communities in Jerusalem, Morocco, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. The songs were set by composer Eitan Steinberg for voice and an ensemble of recorders, guitar, cello/viola da gamba and ethnic percussion.
On September 1999, with its release in the U.S., "The Bride Unfastens Her Braids, The Groom Faints" was chosen by "classicstoday.com" as one of its 10 recommended CDs.
