Etty BenZaken is a multi-disciplinary artist, the recipient of Rosenblum Prize for Outstanding Artists (2018). As a concert singer she has won audiences' and critics' acclaim for performing on prominent stages in Israel, Europe and the USA, focusing on contemporary works, most of which were composed especially for her voice. She is equally known for performing ethnic music from Israel’s various communities in more than 15 languages. Her singing has been widely recorded on CDs, radio, television and documentaries. At the same time, BenZaken is a prolific creative artist in the fields of literature, theater and visual art: she is the author of three published books and the editor of a fourth book; she is the director and designer of chamber operas and Music-Theater shows; Her original sound-works accompany video works and artists' exhibitions, and her visual art-works are shown in exhibitions. For 11 years she taught at the Theater Department of the University of Haifa. Her own education includes music studies at the Jerusalem Music Academy, theater studies at the Jerusalem School of Visual Theater, as well as BA and MA in literature (both with distinction) from the University of Haifa. In December 2019, after more than three decades of performing as a singer, she announced her last full concert as a soloist, and since then she concentrates on recordings and on her creative work. 

 

אתי בן-זקן היא אמנית רב תחומית זוכת פרס רוזנבלום לאמנים ויוצרים מצטיינים (2018). כזמרת קונצרטים, הופיעה על מיטב הבמות בישראל ובחו"ל וזכתה לשבחי הקהל והמבקרים כמבצעת של יצירות בנות-זמננו, מרביתן יצירות שהולחנו במיוחד לקולה. לצד בקיאותה בטכניקות קוליות עכשוויות, הרבתה לבצע שירי-עם מקהילות שונות בישראל, ביותר מ-15 שפות. שירתה הוקלטה בהרחבה בתקליטורים, ברדיו, בטלוויזיה ובסרטי תעודה. במקביל, בן-זקן פעילה כיוצרת בתחומי הספרות, התיאטרון והאמנות הפלסטית: עד כה ראו אור שלושה ספרים מפרי עטה וספר נוסף בעריכתה; היא כתבה, ביימה ועיצבה מופעי תיאטרון-מוסיקה ואופרות קאמריות שהוצגו בישראל ובחו"ל; יצירות סאונד שלה מלוות תערוכות וסרטי-וידאו של אמנים שונים, ועבודותיה החזותיות מוצגות בתערוכות. במשך 11 שנים לימדה בחוג לתיאטרון של אוניברסיטת חיפה. השכלתה כוללת לימודי מוסיקה באקדמיה למוסיקה בירושלים, לימודי בימוי ופרפורמנס בביה"ס לתיאטרון חזותי בירושלים, ותואר ראשון ושני (שניהם בהצטיינות) מהחוג לספרות של אוניברסיטת חיפה. בדצמבר 2019, אחרי יותר משלושה עשורים של הופעות כזמרת הכריזה על הקונצרט המלא האחרון שלה כסולנית, ומאז היא מתרכזת בהקלטות וביצירה.
